Robin Zahner more than anything loves cooking up something good for his friends. He expresses himself through food and music where his style emphasizes dirty imperfections as crass as his personality. More often than not, Robin sees the imperfections in life as hysterical slips which only add color and character. If you ask him to prom, he will definitely say yes. As an actress, Hannelore is a naturally confident and expressive person. She spent most of her interview time talking about her favorite shows and how she feels while performing. While we got some pictures of her laughing, this face encapsulated her passion. We chose to show this energy literally as a fiery ball that all of her words and gestures feed into. At first glance it may seem angry, but it is Hannelore’s fervor for the things she loves that make her happiest. Previously on view at Innisfree Coffee Shop in Boulder, CO. For sale.
If you happen to meet Dr. Joseph Berta, or “Berta” as many call him, it is clear how much joy he finds in telling stories from his past. Whether it is the stories themselves or the laughter that quickly follows, we felt it was important to capture Berta in the middle of one such moment. In this piece, the pillars are representative of his college days. Here, he reminisces on a time where he and his friends planned to trick a group of sorority girls, but didn’t go through with it for fear that the accomplices would trick one another instead. Sarah was our first interview of the day and even with finals and limited sleep she was one of the most smiley people we talked to. Although she is very rarely down, the easiest way to cheer her up is to ask about her interests. As one of the few art and science majors, Sarah finds joy in a wide variety of things, including lipids, chemistry, goats and making cheese. We chose to incorporate some of these items into her headspace in the final photo. A part of the University of Colorado Permanent Collection and on view at the University Memorial Center. Sydney is a naturally happy and outgoing person. She finds joy in so many aspects of life. When the going gets tough for those close to her, she excels at not absorbing negative emotions herself. We chose to represent this barrier by letting Sydney’s colorful energy bounce off of the storm clouds brewed overhead. At the same time, Sydney’s friends and family need her just like the flowers need the rain. Sold.
We spent much of our conversation with Kate laughing. She first spoke about working at a flower shop. We interviewed her right before Mother’s Day and balancing work and school was an extra challenge. Regardless, she told us funny stories and about the great people who worked there. Although her love of the florist life was apparent, it wasn’t until the talk shifted to music before her eyes sparkled. Once on the subject, she talked excitedly about her first big break, being on the front page of Reddit and her process. Music is such a part of her life that she did not even think to mention it and yet, it completely surrounds her. For sale.
